BS1 07 – Teamwork

Another month later (it’s just past mid-July at the time of this writing) and I believe we’re ready to get back on track. William has finally finished editing the videos from the haul out and they’ve all been posted online. For anyone following along and watching for the boom troll, he’s only in the first #7 video (which I am in) and not in the other two #7 sister videos. And, since I did receive this question more than once: Yes, he is in #6! He’s tricky, that little blue-haired troll! Feel free to message me directly if you give up and want to know where he is.

In the month since my last blog post, we held a HUGE estate sale, tossed out a massive amount of trash, made multiple bulk donations to several very deserving organizations, and said our final goodbyes to the land house. A hiccup in the shipping container pick-up and relocation process caused a short delay in moving it to our interim Charlotte storage spot, but we vacated the property on time and said our goodbyes to the town of Waxhaw near the end of June.

At this point, we want to publicly acknowledge and extend our sincere gratitude to our friend Tim (who continues to support our delinquency as only he can), and to the Waxhaw community of friends and neighbors for their awesome acceptance and support during our land house liquidation; you guys ROCK! It was truly a pleasure getting to know many of you, and your kind words of encouragement will not easily be forgotten. We genuinely appreciate each of you! #hugstoGia!

We spent our first week of house-lessness staying at Lexi’s while we sorted our Charlotte commitments and recuperated a bit before moving on. This was the first time we had felt we were able to stop and breathe in months and we took a moment to reflect on the enormous amount of constant, energy sucking, back-breaking, brain numbing, amazingly hard work that had gone into this entire downsize and move process.

In addition to the liquidation and move we also had to do quite a lot of traveling. We had a week-long boat haul out in Georgetown where we accomplished some pretty major boat work (removing the generator and servicing both sail drives), and then a week later we were back and forth to Georgetown SC, to New Bern NC, etc. swapping out our starboard engine. Even trying to think back now, I struggle with processing how we managed to make it all happen (oh, and we both had full time jobs)!

Then William stunned me with a revelation. We accomplished all of this, 100%, on our own. Zero help from anyone else. Just he and I. No friends, no family, no volunteers. Just the two of us. While several thoughts bubbled to the surface in regards to this realization, it’s the reinforcement of a recurring theme between he and I over the years that we chose to focus on; as long we work together, we can get through anything. I’m proud of us. We are proud of us. We are proof that teamwork makes the dream work (such a cliché, but it fits)!

Fast forward to today and we’ve been settling into liveaboard life for a couple of weeks now. We’ve still needed to travel the past few weekends, driving back and forth between what are now the THREE cities where we have things stored, but finally for now we’re not planning anymore land travel in the near future. We have resumed work on the boat and are making plans to leave our current Marina at end of month. As of this moment we’re not sure where we are headed just yet, but we know we’ll get there together!

Until next time friends, fair winds!
